Get used to saying these four words in succession: Prime Minister Stephen Harper.Two nights ago, Canada elected a new party to lead Parliament, and with it, a new Prime Minister.
Political pundits across this country are either shaking their heads, praying for a quick non-confidence vote, or booking one-way tickets to Mexico.
Monday's vote resulted in another minority government being elected. What might be the saving grace of this government is that there is no party that holds the balance of power. This means that all parties must co-operate, or else another election will be called in the coming months, following a vote of non-confidence.
My feelings on the results of this election are mixed. The corrupt Liberal party is dying a slow, painful death with every election. Ex-Prime Minister Paul Martin has announced he is leaving his position as Liberal Party Leader, which could bring another element of instability to a Party that has ruled Canada for the last 13 years.
Unfortunately, I feel that us Canadians don't have a viable option when it comes to election time. All the political parties are either corrupt, or have outrageous political agendas. We are faced with choosing the least of all the evils -- whatever we believe them to be.
At this point, the ballots have cast, and the people have spoken. We will just have to wait and see if the Conservatives live up to their campaign promises -- and history tells us that no elected party lives up to their promises.
