Pulp [Non] Fiction

This post was originally going to document some of the flaming that has been going around select unnamed blogs this past day, but I felt that I would rather not get involved, and take another spin at the subject these anonymous bloggers were arguing over -- which happened to be themselves.

We blog because we are self-indulgent. We are so full of ourselves, our eyes have been stained brown from all the shit we hold in. We talk about ourselves relentlessly because we are so self-centered that listening to someone else talk about themselves drives us insane. It's all about me, me, me... and on this blog, it's no different.

What we write can be surmised as 21st Century digital pulp trash for a population who are so disenchanted with their own lives that they can only seek solace in voyeurism. We read blogs because it's an affirmation that our lives are so utterly boring that we turn to reality TV and the web to either prove that other people are just as boring, far more exciting, or much more insane than we.

We write utter garbage for the masses to wipe their asses with. They return every day, and a fresh roll is waiting for them.

I am uncomfortable with the fact that some bloggers have become critical of their peers' writing -- to the point where it has nearly developed into a full-scale war of words. The way I see it, we are all trashy bloggers. Blogging is considered the second-lowest rung of the proverbial literature ladder.

The lowest rung being romance/erotic literature, which many blogs have degenerated to that level. It is obviuosly a shameless attempt at generating traffic. Trust me, the only audience you are attracting are lustful old creeps and horny pubescent boys looking for a cheap way to get off.

For all these bloggers who are trying to put themselves above other bloggers, just because they have an English degree, or because they get more hits on their site, get a grip. We are all part of the blogging community. If you are going to call someone a trashy blogger who writes garbage for their readers, be prepared to call yourself one as well. Starting a flame war on your blog is a good way to lose your readership.
